Vata(wind),Pitta(bile),Kapha(mucus) and their effect in the body

Ayur means 'life' and Veda means 'knowledge', so Ayurveda is a science of life. It is a kind of science that which preserve health. After understanding Ayurveda, we become aware of destroyers of health. Ayurveda helps in removal of diseases. So our lifespan increases.

Humans are made of five elements known as earth, water, fire, air, and ether. According to Ayurveda water, fire and air are very important. Another thing is that like increases like.  We get burn in part of our body and enter in sun light so it will not be good because this will increase the temperature of burnt part so we should put ice on burnt area.

Ayurveda believes that we can remodel our perception about life.We know that humans are made of five elements but the ratios of these elements are different in everybody. So we should have knowledge about this. But to diagnose the ratios of these elements, it takes time.We should to some training for that. And after the experience, we would be able to divide the human body into vata, pitta, and Kapha. The vata contains a lot of air and space. The pitta contains more fire and water and the Kapha has more earth and water.

As we know, Air is light and it can move easily and is normally cool. So the people who have dry skin, nails, and hair and remain cool most of the time, they are Vata people. Vata people have good quantity of air and space, so sometimes they become spaced-out. Vata people have the ability to think quickly. They are creative naturally. But Vata is in disharmony, they experience anxiety, fear, stress. Because of lacking or earth element, vata people are not grounded.

Kapha people have power and endurance. They are loyal and keep patience in many situations. Because of water element, they don’t like cold. If their composition gets unbalanced, they experience some problems like laziness and obesity.

People who are aggressive and have pale yellow skin, blue eyes are Pitta people. They have a lot of heat. If their Pitta is unbalanced, they will be obsessive. They have good muscles. They are comfortable in movement but in comparison to vata, they are less movable. The concentration of these people is very good. Because of hot heat element, they have good digestion.

The meaning of dosha is a waste in Sanskrit language. In the process of digestion, body absorbs nutrients and produces waste. When there is a lot of wind production, these are Vata people.Vata people have dry skin and they show anxiety quickly. A pitta person has heat.If heat is unbalanced, these people face digestive system disorders because of excess heat and bile production. With the imbalance of Kapha, there would be build up of mucus so this is the problem of Kapha people.

If we want to treat a diseased person, so, first of all, we should recognize the person’s personality i.e. which element or dosha is dominant to diseased person.

So after recognizing, we can give treatment by using Ayurveda and Yoga. For example, if somebody’s Vata is dominant so that person should not come into contact with dry air for longer duration because like increases like. If somebody’s Kapha is dominant, that person should not stay in the cold air for the longer duration. And If somebody’s pitta is dominant, that person should not come into the contact of the sun for the longer duration.

The other thing which is important for treatment that we should increase the digestion efficiency. Here digestion is not limited to food. We take food, water, air, thoughts, emotions etc. We can have constipation problem of food, thoughts, and emotions. Here constipation means something has been stuck whether it is the digestive tract or in our mind. Sometimes, we have thoughts of inferior about our self and others. So we should digest and eliminate these.

If we don’t digest these, we would not able to absorb these and these appear as disease, anxiety, fear, hatred or sadness.

We can digest and eliminate food, thoughts , emotions by Agni(fire). Agni is the flame of consciousness, a flame which ignites itself and which does not need any outer cause. So we can increase this Agni by yoga practice.

By the practice of kunjal, we can balance mucus. We can balance bile by shankprachalana by pranayama, we can balance the wind. We can digest the thoughts and emotions by meditation and yoga nidra.
